Announcement
September 21 Symposium of Pre-Columbian Society of Washington, DC: “Ancient Mesoamerica through 21st Century Science”
The Pre-Columbian Society of Washington, DC will hold its annual, day-long symposium at the U.S. Navy Memorial and Naval Heritage Center in downtown Washington on September 21, 2019. This year’s symposium will focus on breakthroughs in the frontiers of archaeological knowledge and practice, and will examine how exciting new technologies–including (but not limited to) LIDAR, 3-D imaging, forensic laboratory analysis, and the latest techniques for mapping and rock art analysis–have demolished old preconceptions about ancient Mesoamerican societies and prompted archaeologists to ask new questions.
Six highly-regarded professionals will present outstanding examples of recent research findings made possible by the application of advanced technologies. Speakers include Marcello Canuto (moderator); Gerardo Gutierrez; Heather Hurst; Mary Pye; Robert Rosenswig, and Alexandre Tokovinine.
